Thumbs up

Good Afternoon, jkowalski:

The remedy is to repair the set if it is worth keeping. The sound on your television set is FM and garbled sound can be caused by a bad FM discriminator circuit, a bad filter capacitor in the power supply, and/or, perhaps, a problem in the Intermediate Frequency Amp or Speaker Driver.

In today's television sets, this entire system may be one integrated circuit on a circuit board. It may be a plug in (which is rare) or a solder in unit. The IC (or chip) is not expensive but the labor costs to repair the unit are pretty high these days.

As to whether or not you repair it, it is your decision. If the set is over five years old, you may consider replacing it. It could well be a lot less expensive than the repair costs. Television sets these days are "throw away" units. Technician labor these days hovers around $150 an hour.
