Sharp LC-50UB30U Backlight Issue

Good evening, I have an 18 month old Sharp Aquos 4K LC-50UB30U TV that has been experiencing what I believe to be a backlight issue. Specifically, on the bottom half of the TV the picture is visible but is dim and on the top half of the tv, the picture and brightness is normal. Turning the tv off and then back on again does not resolve the issue, however, if I unplug the tv for a minute or two and then plug it back in, the picture is normal (both the top and bottom half are normal brightness). If possible I would like to correct the issue before it leads to more serious issues.

Is this a backlight issue or have I misdiagnosed this? How do I properly diagnose this issue? Is it repairable?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Gary

It is not easy servicing these TV's especially thru the internet.

Usually when the backlight or part of the backlight fails....it trips the protection circuit.
Does the dim picture look completely correct...... no lines..... just dim ?

That TV uses 8 LED backlight strips. So based on that it could also be the power supply that drives them. I have no access to that service manual to see how the panels are wired. It could be 4 + 4.

Excellent company to deal with.... Sharp LC-50UB30U TV Parts
They may be able to tell you how they are wired.

Thanks for the quick reply PJ. To answer your question, YES the picture appears to be completely correct and is just dim, there are no lines or any other issues.
