Question Over The Air DVR

Hi I am currently looking for a good over the air DVR to replace old and dead dvd recorders. I have heard that some can broadcast over the internet and some have an internal hard drive and some an external hard drive. I personally think that one with an external drive would be best as I could easily replace it if necessary but I would use either kind if it worked well.

I also have the impression from what little bit of research I have done that if you buy a DVR that has an external hard drive that you must supply your own hard drive. If that is the case what size hard drive would you suggest at the minimum and are there any hard drive size restrictions?

Is it for a surveillance system or for TV? Either way, I would want a TB of space. Video takes a lot of space.

It is for television only thank you for your advice, I was thinking along the lines of 1TB too for the HD. I might go bigger than that depending on the price.
