Magnavox ZV427MG9 shuts down after a few seconds

Just got a used vcr/dvd-recorder from a friend. Regardless of what you are trying to do, the unit shuts down after a few seconds. It won't play a VHS tape or a DVD, much less record a tape to DVD, which is why I got it. Is that a fault in the power circuit?

I don't know about DVDs but VCRs had rubber belts in them. They used to go bad. Try to remove the cover & watch the operation a bunch of times. There are a lot of moving parts.

Welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately these units use a switch mode power supply which can be a little tricky to repair. Based on the cost to repair and to buy a new one.... your better bet would be to replace it.
