Good Afternoon, Sally8888:
Congratulations on getting 12 years out of that set. The programmed life of a television is actually five years (or so they tell me).
Which channel is giving you fits? Cable channel? If it is above Channel 36, I would imagine the section of the channel selector for the hyper channels is acting up. This is not uncommon.
Let's verify this! Put a VCR on the set's input and use the channel selector in the VCR (keeping the Mitsubichi on Channel 3). If this solves your problem, chances are real good the old set has encountered tuner problems.
If the set has a decent picture, save your money for repairs and just run a VCR for a channel selector. You can get a good VCR for under a $100 these days and that is far less than costs to repair the set.
