Sony 32,losing picture
#1

Hey it,s me again.I have a 32 inch Sony TV.You guys helped me with the sound modual/leaky compasitor problem.Thank you. I had a local shop solder a replacement sound modual on. I say replacement because I don,t think it was new,I saw a tech pull it out of what looked like a a junk drawer, althuogh I was not notified of this.Any how now the sreen looses reception periodically. It looks just like when you pull the cable box connection off.I also noticed a slight sucking in on the sides of the screen when it happens. The reception comes back when I slightly giggle the jack on the back of the TV ,where the cable pluggs into.Ithink that when the set was 3 yrs. old it was doing a simaler symtom, and a local shop said they replaced the tuner at great expense to me.1993 is the vintage.Do you think that taking the board out to have the sound mod. may have cause my problem how?Do you think a used sound mod, could cause it? Or maybe a bad solder job from the repair? Or just a Sony thing? Do you think I can locate and again bring the board in for a inexpensive fix? Thanks.

Good Morning, David:
I hate to hear stories about techs pulling parts out of their junk drawer. But, with any field, there are those among us that are not as honest as we would like.
But, let's let go of the sound module thing and direct our attention to the picture problem. The sound module would (or should) not have any direct bearing on the new symtom.
If you can make the picture come and go by putting a little stress around the cable connection on the back of the set, the first place I would look is the cable that is connecting to the set. These do go bad. A strand of shield wire gets in contact with the signal carrying conductor and it shorts out the signal.
Once we are satisfied this is or is not the problem, come back and we will discuss further troubleshooting aspects.

Good afternoon, David:
Then, the next move is to take off the back and check the cable from the back of the set to the tuner. One end of the cable is soldered to the connector on the back. The other end of the cable is should be a plug-in. One end or the other may be compromised.
