set is about 15 years old but had a fine picture. Picture, color and sound are fine but picture suddenly went to a double image about 1 inch vertical. the image is not rolling but does have jitter. This set came with full schematics and I noticed an IC chip HA11423 that does Vertical & Horizontal sync, Osc. and drive. could this just be as simple as just replacing this chip or is it more likely some of the other discret componits are really at fault?

Thumbs up

Good evening, edgerley:

Yes, the problem can be as simple as changing that Integrated Circuit. Chances are very good that this will restore the set to normal operation.

15 years? That's fantastic! But, after 15 years, you may have a lot of problem finding the replacement parts. Also, you will be on the receiving end of a lot of bull biscuits about old sets. Your choice. If you have trouble finding parts, check in with Union Electronics on the web. They seem to have access to a lot of stuff that is no longer available. Catch them at http://www.unionel.com

Smokey wishes you well and happiness in this event.

Hello,
before you order that new VERT IC it would be a good idea to test all the electrolytic capacitors related to that IC. Often times that is the culprit in older sets. Also check for faulty solder connections on the VERT IC.
