satellite dish installation
#1

I have installed a satellite dish, and I am wondering if you can use 4-way splitter or do I need to wire it directly to the receiver. Also can I use a barrel connector, my house is already wire for cable and I trying to find the easiest way to go about this. Any advise is appreciated.

You can split it on the cable coming from the receiver to the the tv, you cannot split between the dish and the receiver.
Notes...
1. If you split after the receiver each location will be tuned to the same satellite channel. The next problem is how do you route it. If you feed the satellite receiver output thru a splitter to the house, you may lose the ability to receive local non satelite channels when the satellite receiver is in use. 2 cables to each room is another possible, like 2 cable distributions systems. This depends on if you are using an outside antenna or other way of receiving local channels.
2. If you want to watch a different satellite channel at each location then a separate receiver is needed at each location. you will also need a dual LNA at the dish, which will feed up to 2 receivers, if more receivers, than the 2 feeds from the dual LNA must go into a special satellite distribution amp which will then feed each of the receivers, with a direct feed from the amp to each receiver. Providers may change more when serving more than 1 receiver.

What about barrel connectors? Is this a possibility? In other words can I connect the feed from the satellite and then connect it to the cable that is already wired to the room? Or do I have to just have a "solid" cable with no other connections between the satellite and the receiver? I'm trying to avoid running another cable. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Your satellite system most likely came with a long run of cable to go between the LNA at the dish and the receiver, I would NOT recommend using anything but that, and unbroken between the dish and the receiver. I would not recommend breaking /joining or using regular cablevision as poor performance /reception will likely be the result.
