dvd for computer ?

g day you all
I was wondering what your thought about geting a dvd player for a computer and connecting it to a tv (I found a vga to s-video conector)and waching movies. I was just thinking about that since the dvd roms are around $50 to $60 where I live and it is cheaper than $200 for a dvd player.
Thank you for your input

I guess that would work. I personaly have never heard of anyone doing it but the adapters are out there so I guess... I hear mostly of doing so to record to a VCR for the car or such. I do believe there is going to be some signal loss therefore the picture will not be the same. But maybe not, try it and let us/me know...

I think I see what you want to do now. There are ways to get your windoze windows on your TV but I need to ask you why? The resolution of your TV isn't half of what a good monitor is. Your still hung up on the big screen thing for DVD, me too but I learned the hard way. Go out and buy a nice Trinitron 17 inch plus monitor, (or the much simpler/cheaper for your TV) I have three of the in front of me now. Multiple video cards including a new Voodoo 64 meg AGP card and two 16 meg PCI cards that I spent a fortune on for memory upgrades to be able to run multiple monitors. Unbelievable DVD picture on a 17-inch monitor. Now for my regular TV/satellite stuff 27" a 32" and a 35" Panasonic/Toshiba/Sanyo TV's. I can assure you if you transfer your computer screens and DVD to your TV from your computer you will not be happy and you will spend a considerable amount of money trying to do so! I guess you will on monitors too but at least there it's worth it!
