9" AC/DC TV/VCR
#1

I have a 9" AC/DC TV/VCR Symphonic brand that no longer powers up. The fuses are Ok. The speaker makes a low pitch humming sound but the TV will not power up. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Fred

Good Afternoon, Fred:
I have a lot of ideas. Some good. Some bad. Under what condition does your TV exhibit this condition? When you have it plugged into the dash lighter of your Chevrolet or when you use the AC adaptor and plug it into the electrical outlet?
The problem sounds like power supply but need to know which supply is at fault.
Come back.

Good Morning, Fred:
It doesn't sound too serious. I would bet that you have a shorted diode (rectifier) in the power supply of the set. Even though the set is designed to run off DC as a primary circuit through automobile source or AC adapter, there is still circuits in the set to correct for anomalies in the incoming power.
It's worth a check at the shop to verify this and, if I am correct, the repair price will not be excessive.

Good evening Fred,
I know what the problem is with your set. It could either be one of two problems. One problem is there are a couple of capacitors, in the power supply, that go bad. You would need a special cap analizer to check them. Second of all, is 5 volts missing from the power supply that fires up the set. I know this because I am into the businees of repairing them, I have fixed numerous sets like yours, especial symphonics. I would definitly take it in for repair.
