Scrolling Words on Screen
#1
There are scrolling words on the TV screen, like what you might see on a TV screen on display in a store "Key Features"- "Quartz Tuning"-"Auto Shut Off" - "On Off Timer" just to name a few of the scrolling words. The TV was given to me and doesn't have a remote, using channel 3 or 4 I am able to use my VCR remote to change channels. I made adjustments to contrast etc. using the buttons at bottom of TV. After making manual adjustments the words began. Try as I might with VCR hooked up or not the words continue to scroll. LXI 1989 HELP!

You will have to get the original remote for this unit. It is possible that an after market remote will work but it is not a for sure thing. You need to access the TV's menu and the "Setup" to get this resolved. After market remotes run as little as $10, the factory remote, which I am sure you will need, will run about $80 plus. No such thing as a free meal... LXI is an inferior line of TV. But since you recived it for free the actual remote will be a small cost. Hey Smokey, does the 1989 in the model number reflect the Tv's birth year? If it does I would put up with the screen, unplug it and do not attempt to reset anyhting and run it from the VCR... LARGE paper weight there... Sorry...

Good Morning, folks:
I have to concur with Mike that you will need the original or replacement of the original remote control to correct this problem. The unit is stuck on the demo menu and needs to be accessed to shut it off. Usually unplugging it will only cause it to continue.
Check the web using keywords "Television Remote Controls". There are a lot of sites that carry direct replacement remotes and a lot of them are not really expensive.
And, yes, the 1989 is a model year.
