My inlaws have a TV that's probably about ten years old. Every once in a while it makes a loud whistling noise like a tea kettle. It lasts for about five minutes, but does this throughout the night. Any ideas on what it might be?

Good Morning, wissman:

Just when I think I've heard them all......! But, your question raises a couple of my own:

1)Any information on make, model, and, perhaps, age of set?

2)Is it performing this whistling effort when the set is off?

3) How does the set perform when it is on?

4) Does unplugging the set eliminate the problem?

I've had a few "mystery sets" that turned themselves on in the middle of the night, play for a while, and shut off. But, this is the first whistler. I gotta hear more on this one.
