Question

My 13" GE TV began to delay before coming on after pushing the ON button a while back. We would unplug the TV and wait 10 minutes or so, then plug it back in and it would come on. Now that trick won't work. Is there some kind of starter that could have gone bad?

Good Morning, FarmBoy120:

A little trivia here: Both RCA and GE television sets are made by Thompson Electronics, a French company, since 1989.

Also, there is an excellent Repair FAQ for television problems at http://an.hitchcock.org/repairfaq/REPAIR/F_tvfaq.html

Relating to your problem, I going to assume you have checked the electrical outlet to make sure you have power...and the problem is not a dead battery in the remote control.
An off-on failure in these sets is usually attributed to the thyristor (electronic switch) or its control circuitry. It used to be you could just turn on a switch and the TV would work. Since everyone is using remote controls these days, the switch is electronic.
Also, you could remove the back of the set and see if it is just a blown fuse. All sorts of possibilities here.

If you decide to get into the unit for some troubleshooting, repair manuals and schematics for the set are available at

Cool GE TV

I'm having the same problem with my GE. It's only six yrs.ld. I'm curious, did farmboy120 ever get his repaired? If so, give me details of the problem, cost, etc.

Good Afternoon, Marsha:

What you see is what I know. The information I supplied still applies.
