Question

I have a 48 inch sony, I don't know the model number, and after talking with a friend of mine he tells me I have problem with the convergence. After several moves in the last couple of years, I have noticed that the picture is distorted. I have opened the back of the tv and made adjustments to the RGB "guns", but only the right side of the screen will sharpen. I can't seem to get the left side to come into focus. Could you give me an idea of how to get the left side colors to line up without distorting the right side so that I might have a clear picture? Any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thumbs up

Good Morning, hedly01:

You're in over your head with this repair and I don't recommend it for the novice. I assume we are dealing with a projection unit from the size of it. What I perceive has happened is that the projection tubes have been jarred and are no longer sitting in their mounts at the prescribed location for correct focal length to the screen. In short, it is a mechanical adjustment for focus. An electronic adjustment will only adjust "over all" screen focus.

Adjusting for this problem is quite detailed and requires a great deal of patience and expertise. I would recommend you contact an authorized Sony repair facility and have a technician check it out for you. I've made this repair and the frustration levels are quite high. Also, some specialized signal generators are required.
