Speakers

This may sound like a stupid question, but I have to try to keep my Mother in law happy.

She purchased a small set of relatively inexpensive ($100) speakers and wants to use them with her TV. The speakers have the usual black and red clamp down connections. The TV has RCA left and right audio outputs. Can I just take a RCA cable, cut the ends off one end and attach to the speakers?? Then at the TV connection use the RCA cable with a "Y" connector?? It does not matter that she won't get "stereo" sound. She does not want buy a receiver. I thought it would not work because there is nothing powering the speakers, I was not sure if the TV audio outputs put out enough power to power the speakers.

She tried wireless speakers but there was too much static and interference and took them back.

Mother in Laws are so much fun with there "little" projects!!!!!
Thanks for any advice/ suggestions
Daryl

If the TV manual says they are amplified, then you could, but
my guess is that they are line level, requiring an amplifier.

Cool NO

Video & Sound: Cyber Acoustics 3-Piece Speaker System
Brand/Model: CA CA3000 $19.95 with a little subwoofer on it. From Circuit City.
For a computer but you can stop by Radio Shack and get a small adapter from 1/8 stereo phono to RCA. Plug it into the TV and it will sound good. There is no amp in that set for external spkrs thru the RCA outs. Follow the URL below and search for the above device. You will have to have an amplifier to use the RCA's on this unit.
