Question 52' RCA rear projection does not turn on

52' RCA rear projection 6+ yrs old at first the tv would intermittently turn off when first turn on, this was followed by now the tv want power on at all, resetting tv does not help. what could the problem be? I was told that it may be $500 to repair. Does this sound right, and do you feel its worth repairing. If the power supply is bad does this require the complete power supply unit to be replaced or can the unit be fix using a repair kit. If so would/should this reduce repair cost.

thank you so very much for you help

Thumbs up

Good Morning, robdot4u2:

That series of sets had a couple of problems. Both of them seemed to hover around the high voltage system. One was a HV/Focus block that seemed to go bad. Another was a problem with deflection yokes shorting on the projection tubes. So, the $500 price tag is about the norm for these repairs. It might not be a bad idea, though, to get a couple competitive estimates on the repair.

Repair or replace? That's in your arena. These projection TV sets have an average life span of 9-10 years before they start their downward spiral. At that time, I recommend replacement because they get very labor intensive and costly to maintain.

If you're adept at repairing these sets, you can get a repair manual at http://www.treasurechestcorp.com/Default.htm
