picture in picture green

Yes I have a 60inch Hitachi big screen television that is about 8 years old. And I have cable and a home theater hooked to it and after I turn it on and its been on for a few minutes the screen will flash and kinda get dim and then when I do the picture in picture it is all green. and it may stay like that for a little while and then go back to normal. I turned the tv off while it was doing it and back on again to see if that would help and when it came back on I didnt have sound. And onother thing i noticed is when it is in the process of doing this I can't access the menu options. Its seems to be doing it on and off whenever it feels like it and when its doing ok the picture in picture is in color and I can access the menu options. any sugestions on what this might be, would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Tim

Thumbs up

The symptoms indicate that the PIP module is going bad on the set and will most likely have to be replaced. The PIP (Picture in Picture) is a separate tuner/decoder unit.

I wouldn't recommend putting a lot of money into this unit, though, because it has just about run it's lifetime. These sets have an average life span of 9-10 years and then they become very labor intensive.

If you need a service manual on the set, I recommend you check this site for assistance:
http://www.treasurechestcorp.com/Default.htm
Once you get the manual, you can determine the part numbers you need to affect the repair.

Parts are available at Union Electronics at http://www.unionel.com
