Shop around with your local insurance companies. You will need insurance to cover the building (if you own), contents, liability, commercial insurance for company vehicles, loss of income, theft, robbery, employee dishonesty (?). If you have employees, you will also need workers compensation insurance. If business is located in flood plain or earthquake and this poses risk to contents, you will need this type of additional risk insurance. Professional liability insurance in case a dissatisfied customer sues you. Directors' and officers' insurance will cover them from liability. Employment practices insurance covers you in the event an employee sues for sexual harassment or wrongful termination. Umbrella policy covers amounts beyond what the basic insurance covers. Partner insurance covers what you would have to pay the partner's heirs in case of death. Depending on the type of business, joining a professional organization can often provide insurance at discount rates.

As you can quickly see, depending upon coverages needed and additional coverages selected and type of business, costs would vary among businesses. Talk with local insurance companies who can suggest recommended coverages and provide you with a quote. What you would pay would be different from what other businesses pay.

As twelvepole said......Find a local agent.

Shop around.............

But dont always shop for price ( as it is important ), but shop for a good agent . Use your contacts to find someone that values you as you value your clients.

My advice is always to find someone you KNOW, LIKE, & TRUST to advise you in your insurance needs.

business insurance

Make sure the local agent you use in an independent insurance agent representing many reputable insurers. Check www.iiaa.com for a listing in your area. Also, make sure they're experienced in your business. For example, if you're a contractor, make sure they're well versed in contractors insurance. Insurance Guy...
