Building new home...
Im working with a builder/company that will build on my lot.Im wondering if the price of the home or the options I want for my home are negotiable?Im wanting to add a 20x20 unfinished room on the first floor,a 11x11 on the second floor and that would also give us 20x20 more in the basement..Would $22,000 be too much?Could I ask for extras?Just wondering if options and prices are negotiable, or if there is a rule of thumb for price per finished or unfinished sq foot?

Ibjamn,
Everything is negoitable but since you are the one footing the bill, it is in your hands. I recommend getting bids for what you want done. A need for apples to apples comparison is needed to ensure that you are getting good prices. Then check out their work before signing on the bottom line. Where you live will determine going rates as well as what you are expecting.
You first need a set of plans to provide for bidding - have a spec sheet made out and go from there. This is all pending on what you are allowed to build on your property. Contact your building officials for requirements.
Hope this helps!

First, everything is negotiable AND you will be paying for everything. You will not negotiate to get something for "free" (the cost is in there somewhere).
As a VERY general rule of thumb I think $100 to $110 per foot for average quality finish construcion. In some areas of the country it may be as low as $90 or as much as $150. Attached garages I figure about $30, and unfinished basements are around $20 a foot.
Keep in mind that $100 a foot can very easily bloom to $150 by upgrading just one more thing.

Just finished a very nice custom home in North Texas and spent $95 per square foot (construction of home only - lot was on top of that). After all the extras, including more than doubling our allowance for kitchen appliances, we probably ended up around $120 per foot.
