who to call ?????? (Underground Utilities)

I am wanting to get some wooded land cleared to put a sectional home on 1/2 acre to maybe an acre cleared of trees...Who is it I call to see about if there are any hidden wires underground before any clearing or digging starts....

Underground utilities require you to call the local utility companies to see if they have any lines buried.

scrooge,

you always call 1-800-227-2600. You flag or mark the area you want to dig in. You then call the number. They contact all utility companies, and any one else who would have something in the ground that you could hurt. They will come out and paint right on the ground such things as okay to dig PACBELL, or they will mark out gas line, water line whatever and sign off. When you call they will give you a timeline such as okay to dig after tuesday the 22. Then the utiliity companies will be out before that date. You were right to call before you dig.

I hope this helps.
