Planning for Washer/Dryer

How much area is needed to fit a standard washer/dryer in to a recessed area? Is there a UBC that dictates anything? Just looking at it, it seems like an area 5' wide x 3' deep would be the minumum. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

abkent

Planning a washer/dryer

abkent,

Your correct on the rough measurements for the washer/dryer only depending on the type of doors, if any, that would enclose this area. Just make sure you have allowed room for bifolds, since they do not provide a full 5' opening even if the rough opening is 5'-0". Swing type doors would assure proper clearance to load dryer and make removal of the appliances easier.

Have a great day!
