close off vents and install dehumidifier

I have an addition over a crawl space with basement access to crawl space. two vents are at ground level and take on rain water. I would like to cement vents up and add dehumidifier to crawl space. Will this be a problem?

Id say go for it. We dont vent any crawl space seal it up . Put down a 6 mil poly over the ground. If you dont have any heat or cool ducts down there add the dehumidifier Go read this www. it will help. Check gutters and down spouts .Rework grade away from home http://aboutsavingheat.com/crawlspace.html

Mulching Madness

this is what I see alot when water and insects, and rodents gets into homes. When the home was built code required 6-8" above grade for the vents. Over time, either the building sank alot or a zealous gardner has piled on top soil or mulch. The grade should be away from the house with gutters in tact and draining away from the house. The poly is a great idea, but check the vents for screens to prevent infestation. That dehumidifier will cost you a bundle to operate.
