GE Dehumidifier Freezing

40 Pint.

I think

Anyway. Thing is always freezing up, 72 in the basement. We put it outside (90 degrees) and let it thaw, and 5 minutes later it was freezing and winding up the coils in no time. Turned it off and the coil started to melt.

What gives. I hate to shell out another 200 bucks, but this is gettin rediculous.

is the coil clean? good air flow??

if all is ok, then you maybe low on charage. Won't be worth trying to fix, where you can get it cheaper when you buy new.

How do you check the air flow.

The coil looks a little dirty, due to the fact that it is been freezing lately.

Just put your hand in front of the unit.. If the air flow is good, then make sure the coil is clean.. some newer system has air fitler infront of the coil.. clean that too..

If all above is done, still freeze, then be best to get a new unit.. will cost you more to repair this than buy a new one.
