dehumidifier size

What size dehumidifier would you use in a 1500 sq. ft. ranch .I want to supplement my central air which I think is oversize.The humidity level stays to high.

What are you looking at?

A free standing unit or system that you tie to your central system?

Dehumidifier cycling too much

I have a Goldstar dehumidifier which is about 5 or 6 years old that is suddenly beginning to cycle the compressor on and off (fan remains on constantly) about every 10-15 minutes. In the past years the compressor has run non stop all summer. There is no ice build up or excess heat as far as I can tell. Other than the disconcerting sound of the compressor kicking in every 10-115 minutes, it seems to be working ok - it produces as much water as it always has, which I guess is all that counts. I cleaned out the filter and the first layer of fins on the coil but it doesn't seem to help at all. The fins on the interior layer of the coil is also covered in dirt but I don't know how to access it to clean it. Does the cycling use up more electricity or cause more wear and tear; or is this something I should just ignore?Read More

Coils Do Not Cool

Working on a Whirlpool Dehumidifier model AD0302XS2. First time working on a dehumidifier. Symptom: coils do not cool and no water is taken out of the air. Fan works. Humidistat Works. Compressor seems to run and gets warm, but the coils do not cool. Deicer thermostat has continuity and power is getting from the Deicer Thermostat to the Overload Protector (OLP). OLP has continuity and power is getting from the OLP to one terminal of the Start Relay. The OLP and Start Relay are in the same plastic housing. The Start Relay plugs into the Compressor, which has three male connectors. The Start Relay has three female connectors – one hot (from the OLP) and two neutral. There is no continuity between the two neutral connectors of the Start Relay. Is there supposed to be continuity? The three male connectors of the Compressor all have continuity. Is this the way it should be? So … what does all of this indicate? I’m not sure what is supposed to have continuity and what is not. Is it a bad Start Relay? Bad compressor? Or am I dealing with a refrigerant leak? Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Are there any other tests that I can run to help in the diagnosis of the problem? Thanks.Read More
