Whole House Dehumidifier

Whole House Dehumidifier
Hi. Our daughter was recently diagnosed with asthma due to severe dust mite allergies, and we need to keep our humidity below 50% to keep them out. We live in a Cape house, in Mass. Built in 1950. About 2300 sq. ft., lots of seperate rooms, no real openness. We have baseboard hot water heat, and no central air. We have air conditioners in several windows, but have not been able to get the humidity down in the main living areas, one reason being because of the four kids always in and out, I guess. We have two dehumidifiers running in the basement in the two rooms down there. They are always filling on high, and I know we have moisture issues, although we have never had water in the basement. We live in Western Mass. where there is always a lot of rainfall, and a lot of trees keep our street shady, and our house damp. Should we try a whole house dehumidifier, like the Santa Fe? Do you know of that brand? I have seen it on some allergy websites, for up to a 2400 sq. ft house. I do have a utlity sink in the basement that it could empty into. Would this help us with our humidity on the first and second floor when we are not running the air, or should we purchase smaller ones for the rooms my daughter spends the most time in? Right now, with running the air all the time, we are able to keep the humidity down in her bedroom. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any advice you could give.

This what I wouild suggest.
Replace the window A/C's with a variable speed air handler w/ 2-stage A/C in the attic. And have a humidity control tied to the system so the fan speed can be controled if the humidity is high. and 2-stage t-stat still have A/C drying the house on warm days and extra cooling on hot days.
Then use a good Meida Filter system or April Air 5000 filter system.
