Kenmore 54501 50 pint dehumidifier

I have the kenmore 54501 50 pint dehumdifier, I lost my user manual during my latest move and need to hook up the drain nozzle to drain straight to the floor drain instead of dumping the bucket everyday. I need to know how and where to hook up the nozzle, anyone know where to download the manual? I've looked and looked all over the web and the kenmore site with no luck, thanks in advance

All the dehumidifiers of this type I've seen, the direct drain connection is on the bucket. Unscrew the cap and replace it with the (female) end of a garden hose.

Basement Dehumidification?

I have a 1600 sqft ranch house in Northeast Ohio that has a full basement. The basement is fully exposed on 1 side of the house. My house is in the woods but on top of a tall hill so there is never any standing water in the basement but it is always dank and humid. The basement is 3/4 finished and divided into 4 rooms. The bathroom has a large window and is mostly comfortable. The shop has 2 windows and is also mostly comfortable. The large family room (~900 sqft) has large sliding glass doors located below our upstairs deck. My house is all electric and has no central A/C or ductwork to install it. The problem is that the room is dark and always smells musty. During the summer months a small humidifier runs constantly and fills a 5 gallon bucket in about 60 hours. If it does not run, mold becomes visable in weeks. My wife hates the basement but I love it because I installed a movie theater down there. In order to solve this problem I am thinking about installing a large picture window to let in more light and fresh air. I have removed the carpeting and installed hard wood floors (thinking it would hold less moisture and also be cleaner as we run a woodstove during the winter months). Finally, I was thinking of replacing the portable dehumidifier with a large whole home dehumidifier (the aprilaire 1700 or Santa Fe). Will this do the trick? Humidity in New Construction

I just moved into a newly built home in hot and humid atlanta. We have 2 main floors and a finished basement which sits mostly above grade. We have several digital humidity guages and all the floors have humidity in the mid to high 60's. The A/C works fine for cooling and is able to keep the house in the low 70's even when the outside air is 95+. My question is what is a minimal acceptable standard for indoor humidity. My warranty book states that the a/c shall be capable of "maintaining summer design conditions as specified in the ASHRAE handbook" I've done a bit of research, but can't come to a definitive conclusion on humidity standards given all the revisions and addendum to the ASHRAE handbook. I obviously need to get the humidity down, but do the builder and HVAC folks have some responsibility to? thanks in advance for the help.Read More
