Did I damage my Aprilaire 700 Humidifier?
#1

Last night at 3:30AM, I awoke to this loud clicking/grinding noise coming through the ducts. By the time I got to the basement, it had stopped so being tired, I went back to bed. Well, at 5:00AM, the furnace kicked on again and a couple seconds later I hear that clicking/grinding noise. This time, I ran fast enough to notice that the noise was coming from the humidifier.
Well, in my sleepy daze, I managed to figured out that this was probably the first time the furnace kicked since I replaced the water panel of my Aprilaire 700 Humidifier a couple days ago. I turned the control panel to off and went to take off the housing and noticed that the while the top was latched, the bottom was not. Oops.
I took the housing off, took a quick peak to make sure there wasn't any miscellaneous pieces lying around and replaced the housing, making sure that the top and bottom were both properly latched. I then kicked the furnace on and set the control panel to "test". Everything ran quiet. That was the good news. The bad news is that it ran a little too quiet. After a couple seconds, I heard water pumping into the humidifier but unfortunately, the humidifier fan never kicked on.
It should also be noted that even before I replaced the water panel, whenever the humidifier kicked on and off, there would be a loud audible thunk or clunk. I never thought twice of it until now.
I'm assuming the humidifier fan shuold run in test mode but maybe not if the indoor RH was around 55%? If it should be running, does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Something get thrown out of whack when the housing wasn't properly latched? Bad motor? Other? Is it possible to jump the fan? If so, how?
