To Humidify Or Not?

For years I have used my Sears console humidifier in the winter. To prevent bacteria build-up Consumer Reports recomends that you empty & clean the unit DAILY! I might remember to do this once a winter so my question is this:
Knowing that I am not willing to devote an hour each day to cleaning the humidifier, am I better off not running it at all or better off letting it run a little dirty?

There is water treatment that you can use to help control growth of bactria.. I am drawing a blank on the the name.. I think it is bactriastic (SP).

Follow directions on this, and you will be fine.. Replace the pads maybe 1/2 way though the season.
