Will this require any special parts? Any suggestions or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Try and use the hot water for it if you can.

A flow through humidifier uses quite a bit of water. Wouldn't it be expensive (and wasteful) to use hot water? I'm not meaning to be contentious, but am truly curious.

It may cost a bit more with using the hot water. but it will incresse the effcency a bit more (steam has water vaper) and also the water has less "stuff" in it since the water sits in the water heater, and it falls out of the water.

I hoooked mine up last fall, and I didn't see much incresse in gas by doing this.

Cut the shut off valve down so there is just a small anount of water going out of the drain. That is not used for R/H
