DeHumidifier Gas leaked !

My Kenmore 50 pint dehumidifier had a coolant gas leak and now it spins fine but humidity stays the same in the basement because its coolant gas is not there anymore. I can see the minor crack on the metallic copper pipe coming out from the compressor side. Is it worth to get it weld/solder and re-fill with the new coolant gas? How much it could cost for this fix? Which brand of dehumidifier is better, Kenmore or Whirlpool? Is there any other better company name?

If you have been running it this way for even a short time . Id say just go get a new one. The cost to fix it vacuum it down, line tap and put freon in it would be high .

IMO...get another brand the Kenmore DH are not what they use to be. I have 3 new ones and in the last year all 3 have been in the shop.When they go out again it will go to the recycle bin.f

Winter dehumidifier argument with Spouse!!!!

I'm having a disagreement with my spouse about the portable dehumidifier(25 pint) in our finished basement. This level is always cold, even with the heat vents opened. I think that if we run the dehumidifier during the cold winter months(Chicago weather) the rooms will feel warmer. Honey, :mad: term used loosely, thinks that since the humidifier on the furnace is running for the dry upper levels, we defeat the purpose by pulling the humidity from the rest of the house. I think he's wrong because the area that the basement dehumidifier covers has nothing to do with the upper levels. I think the dehumidifier should run in winter to eliminate the cold from the rain and snow that effects the basement walls all winter and will make the basement feel warmer. I have a G.E. 30 pint dehumidifier that started not coming on all the time. Now it won't come on at all. Could it be the switch on it? I can buy a switch for $23, but do you think that's what is the problem? It is about 3 years old and had no other problems untill this started.Read More
