Dehumidifier Sizing
I'm in the market for a new dehumidifier for my basement which is about 1,100 sq ft. If I plan on running a hose from the dehumidifier to my sump pump and never using the bucket, does it matter what size (30, 50, 65 or 70 pint) I get?

There was a discussion on sizing humidifiers yesterday:

twelvepole - Thanks for the link but I dont think it answered my specific question. If I plan on running the hose into a floor drain, why is it still important to care about sizing it for the room if the water will always be flowing to the floor drain via an attached hose? Do bigger units have better fans?
Or is it because a smaller unit for a bigger room will run longer, waste more energy as oppose to a bigger unit for the bigger room will run less and save more energy? If so, then is energy savings the main aspect in sizing if you will be using a hose at all times. Please lead me in the right direction.
I'm sorry if I am having a hard time understanding!

The size of space to be dehumidified and the amount of humidity to be removed are the keys. A small unit in a large space with high humidity could run all the time, use lots of energy, and still not bring the humidity level to within normal limits. Whether you manually dump the bucket or drain it with a hose to a floor drain is not relevant. It's the amount of humidity to be removed in that particular size room and the number of pints of humidity that needs to be removed every 24 hours to maintain 35-55% humidity level. While energy savings is important, you need the proper size to do the job needed. If in doubt, buy the next size up. For more info:
