Aprilaire 550 wiring Problem
I have searched thru all the forums to see if someone has the same problem I have but found nothing similar to my issue.
This is my issue:
Last spring my IFC fried, and I have a tech install a new one. This winter I turn on my Hum and my furnace stop working. I turn off the Hum and the furnace start working again as long as the Hum is off the furnace works.
I took a pick at the wiring and this is what I found.
On the IFC there is a HUM with a black wire to the Humidistat and returns with a orange wire that leads to one of the Humidifier wire on the Supply planuim and the other wire on the same Humidifier leads to the 'W' Terminal on the IFC. It looks to me that the wire on the 'W' terminal needs to go to the 'C'ommon side on the IFC Terminal.
I want to move it out to the 'C' but am afraid I will fry something.
I can some one help me out here please. Thanks in advance

YOu want the wire from HUM on the board going up to the humidistat, other wire from humidistat over to the humidifer itself, other wire from humidifier back to C on board.

Sorry Jay I confused you. Yes the wire from the control board Hum is going to the Humidistat and the other wire from the Humidistat is going to the Humidifier itself and the other wire for he Humidifier is going to 'W' on the board' this is how its right now.
So am going to move the wire from the 'W' to 'C' on the board. Thanks a lot I will do that in the morning and let you know the outcome.
Thanks

Allright, sounds good.. After you make the change your board shouldn't be acting up anymore.
What's happing is the load is shorting out.. W is hot, and HUM becomes hot when calls for humidity.

Hi Jay you nail it my board is not acting up no more. Thanks so much.
I have 2 questions.
1. Is there a donation site to support this forum. I would like to make a donation if there is one. This fourm is the greatest......very quick respond.
2. I would like to install a Humidifier in my mother in law house but the furnace do not have a board. I read a lot about adding a Transformer (A50). Can you give me a brief description how I could go about installing Aprilaire(550). I mean wiring. Thanks a lot.

Good to hear! Thanks for the update.
I think there is.. I don't know off hand, I sent a msg to someone else and will get an answer soon.
YEs for an older unit a switching device will be needed.. Most honeywell sold at home centers like Home Depot will have a kit, and in that kit is a sail switch, that will work just as well as the A50.
So you wire in transformer to a power source like an power junction box near the furnace. Wire from transromer to a sail switch/A50 relay, from relay to humidistat. Humidistat to humidifer, humidmidfier back to c on transformer.

Looks like so far there is no donation for this site since it's not a privite owned web site...
However, if you have strong knowlage on something and like to share your skills/knowlage, jump in a forum that you know... Like Computers... home improvement.. ect.
