Problem Installing a Honeywell Bypass Humidifier

Hi Folks,
I started installing a Honeywell HE120A on my Bryan furnace.
After reading all the instructions, I started off by cutting open a hole in the duct to mount the humidifier drum.
After cutting open a small section I was surprised to see what looked like copper AC coils inside the duct !

Here is where I made the cut:

Should I just seal this up with silver duct tape or is it safe to mount the humidifier here?

Regards,
GB

Yep, you got the A/C coil.. Hope you didn't hit/cut the copper line?

I would clean up the rough cut, and get a sheetmetal piece to cover up the hole than the foil tape..

You can either move the humidifier up higher, or mount it on the return, and put the by pass up above the A/C coil.

I also want to advise you, being you got this style of humidifier, be sure to take it apart every other month and give it a good cleaning... Replace the pad every year...

this is a standing water model, and they are know for poor maint, of keep it clean and with poor maint, the water float can fail and overflow.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for the quick reply, its much appreciated!

I'm a first time home owner so I'm not too familiar with all the options available in humidifiers. I just picked one out at Home Depot from their poor selection.

Is there any specific type that will require less maintainance? I don't mind paying a bit more for a better piece of equipment.

Regards,
GB

There should be 4 model to pick from..

HE120

HE220

HE260

HE360

Our store has all 4, unless they are out of them?

I would suggest the 220/260. How big is your home?

My house is 1800 sq ft. I'll look in to returning this one ordering a 220/260 after reading some more about it.

Then the HE220 would work out for you.
