My Aprilaire 440 no longer works. I'm interested in either changing to an Aprilaire 700 or going to the Honeywell TrueSteam. House is 3200 sf and the first floor is all hardwood (along with all new kitchen cabinets). House is heated/cooled by Carrier Infinity 2 stage gas furnace and central air. My wife has severe allergies and with the house being so dry, her nose bleeds. I know the TrueSteam is almost 2x cost of Aprilaire, but I want to get the best unit to get the humidity correct. Any recomendations?

This is my first post and hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. Bought our "new" house 4-years ago - first house we've had with a whole house humidifier. About 6 months ago, I notice that the water ran constantly even when the furnace was off. A quick call to Aprilaire confirmed my suspicion that the solenoid was toast. I replaced it myself and the unit was working fine. About 3-weeks ago my Wife starts saying that house feels very dry. Lo and behold, I go check the unit when the furnace was running and found zero water flow and no fan. I lifted the cover to check the water panel (yup, dry as a bone) and to see if my connections to the solenoid were still intact (they were). I closed the lid sharply and the unit switched on to my surprize. For a while now, I've been able to do a lid-slam to get the unit fired up, but this isn't the way to go. I found your forum today and read a great thread about problems with a member's 760. Going with what I learned, I disconnected the two brown wires going to the humidistat and shorted them together. The unit fired right up with both fan and water flow. Could the problem be my humidistat (Honeywell H49B)? Or could it be the board? The whole lid-slamming thing is what's throwing me. The RH in the house is at 16% right now. Static shocks and dry sinuses and skin are the norm right now. Not pleasant LOL. Thanks in advance! Ed
