Should I vent dehumidifier outside?
Hello all,
I just purchased a Whirlpool dehumidifier for our basement. It seems to work great, but it the air it's releasing is rather warm. We don't have A/C, so that's a bit of a problem here in the hot and humid Toronto summer.
I'm considering venting the warm air out a basement window. Would that be a good/bad idea?
Thanks very much for your input.

It is pulling in room temp moist air and exhausting dry, warm air. If you exhaust this air, it must be replaced. The replacement will probably be air from the exterior - via window, air leaks from most anywhere, or even back drafting a water heater or furnace flue pipe.
Once the basement has low enough humidity to permit the dehumidifier to cycle, I don't think you will notice it as much.

Thanks goldstar. The basement is open to the ground floor above, so if I vent the dehumidifier air outside, I'm guessing it would it pull more moist air down from upstairs. Is it important to let that dry, warm air go back into the basement? Or would it be better to vent it?

The exhaust from the dehumidifier is the dry air it has created for you - vent it to the outside and there's no point running the thing in the first place
