Aprilaire 400A humidifier with the model 60 control wireing help

I just purchased the Aprilaire 400A humidifier with the model 60 control. I have a 30 year old Williamson Temp-O – Matic. Need help with wiring into furnace. Here is a schematic of the furnace.

Question Aprilaire 400A humidifier with the model 60 control wireing help

I do not have the A50 current sensing relay. My neighbor is a pluming / heating contractor. He said to use a RIM 24V relay and wire it from the GF terminal of the model 60 controller to the blower motor. He explained that this way the furnace blower would come on not only when heat was being called for but also when just the humidity level is low. Will this work?

Do you have the "Fan Center" on your furnace?

If you don't then the Gf is not going to work. A50 relay then is needed.

The diagram doesn't show it, but it can be added later on.

I've never heard of "RIM" relay before?

I googled it and coming back with mixed results.

Take a photo of your furnace w/ the covers off..

The center would be on the left hand side in the burner section.

Question Aprilaire 400A humidifier with the model 60 control wireing help

Sorry, it's RIB not RIM. I'm pretty sure I don't have a fan center. Looks like just a junction box.

Ok, looks like you don't have it. (kinda dark on the left side of the photo)

I looked it up, and never seen such thing.. I'd suggest to do the fan center instead, and that will fit in place of the junction box cover. Then if you add A/C you are ready for it.

I looked at those, and they are not the correct product.

Again, I'd suggest a fan center.

Yes, the Packard FC90113 is one of the fan center that can work. One I was going to suggest is the Honeywell R8239B1076.

I won't do the wire detail till you got the model you are going for.

The Honeywell is more expensive than the Packard and one is a DPDT vs SPDT. Whats the difference?

The SPDT is what you need for your furnace since the blower is only one speed.

Not sure if the color is going to be the same as other, so let me know what model you ordred, and will draw it out for you.

Question

I'm going to the pluming heating supply tomorrow but I really want to understand how this works. It seems wiring is different in many cases. On the model 60 control can you explain what each of the terminals do?
Power R &C. Why does it need two 24v power supply's?
Inputs ODT. I know this is the outdoor temp sensor.
W= call for heat. What does this mean?
G= Is this the 24v on the furnace from the thermostat? T1 and T2
H & H= Solenoid. Is this basically a switch turning the unit on and off?
GF= what does this do?

R and C is for steady power for the humidistat to read humidity and display.
W let's the humidistat know there is call for heat to come on.
G is the input to know the fan is turned on from the t-stat.
H and H is the switch for the humidifier itself.
Gf is wired to the furnace (your case fan center) to turn on the fan if humidity is needed with out heat call.

Ok, how to wire it. (I am not able to draw it, sorry!)
----------------------------
The black wire from transformer wired to the incoming hot wire that has wire nut black wire from fan limit control.

White wire from transformer to all white wires on wire nut.
-----------------------------
Relay side

Brown/N.C. wire from relay going to Red wire from fan center. (Undo red wire from fan)

Red/N.O. wire from relay going to incoming hot wire that has the transformer wired into.

Black/Common wire going to red wire from fan motor.

Hope this helps.

My neighbor installed the RIB relay to turn the blower on when there is a call for humity. At first I didn't think is was working. It came on along with the blower when in test, but when it was turned down enough to turn it off it didn't come on right away. It seems to have a delay. But so far its working. Thanks for the help.
