Nest + Humidifier Clarification

I'm trying to get a Nest hooked up with a whole-home humidifier in the mix. I've been back and forth through the forums, and can't quite put the pieces together for wiring my system up.

This post http://www.doityourself.com/forum/humidifiers-dehumidifiers/486736-wiring-nest-2nd-generation-thermostat-humidifier.html seems to capture the 2 options clearly, and I think that my humidifier is passive, but I can't figure how the 24vac (shown below) fits in the mix.

My simple questions are:
1. Based on this equipment, do I need a relay?
2. How does the 24vac fit into the wiring scheme?

On the back side of the 24vac:
Black -> HUM and White -> Neutral.
On the front side:
White -> Humidistat
Red -> Humidifier

You would not need a relay.. You'd wire it up as you saw in the photo, and that would be the top one.

The transformer that's there now, can be removed from the system.

So you wire one side of the humidifier to *, and the other side to C at the furnace.

Humidifier troubleshooting, working but humidity levels not rising

Hi I have a HE260 Humidifier hooked into my supple trunk. Even though it's on all day the humidity level hasn't really risen. The humidity level hovers aorund the low 20's regardless of whether or not it's on. The solenoid is kicking on and opening the humidifier the filter is moist and water is running through it. Additionally the duct pipe feeding it (coming from the return) also has air flowing. Is there anything else that could be wrong or it's just been too cold/dry lately for the humidifier to cope with?Read More

Hello everyone. I have had this very persnickity unit installed for the past two years. It took multiple visits from three different HVAC companies to get it to work right. It worked well for one year. Last year not so much, despite thorough cleaning. This year not at all. Currently it shows a cleaning is required. I've cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and the cleaning required light will not go out. The green 'humidifying' light stays on, and the amber cleaning required light. Water drains continuously from the pipe in the bottom. I opened it without draining just to see what I would find. The reservoir was about three quarters full of boiling hot water. But the unit is not blowing steam. I thoroughly cleaned it again, and made sure the drain at the bottom was clean. Now it has the red service light on as well. I am reluctant to call an HVAC company again to service it because nobody seems to have experience with these units and I spent so much on it so far. I'll try to fix myself now, or the unit is going in the trash. Any ideas? Thank you.Read More
