New humidifier solenoid closed but still lets water through

Just moved into our house. Aprilaire 550s on both furnaces.
Went to test the huimdifier, found the solenoid not opening. Not surprising as previous owners said they never used.
Water is a saddle valve to the hot water line (yay saddle valve. Ugh)

Bought replacement solenoid (Generalair 4040). Wired it in. Turn water on, and it's dribbling even when the solenoid is closed. Apply 24V, and it opens and flows better.

Figure i have a defective solenoid. Get a replacement. Same thing.

the replaced valve was a Research Products 4693. I couldn't find anything online about it.

Not sure what to do. Is there a "stronger" solenoid i'm not aware of with a better shutoff?

Well, it turns out i'm just an idiot and had the solenoid the wrong way around.
Reversed it, and it works fine.

Case closed.
