Dehumidifier not collecting water
So I noticed this last weekend and ran it overnight, then in the morning, not even a drop of water on its collecting pan. Then yesterday, I ran it overnight and my wife smells something different down the basement, until I discovered that the air blowing out of dehumidifier smell a bit like burnt material. The back of the unit is very warm to the touch. Is that smell being emitted normal for this unit operating without collecting water?
The compressor is good and it cycles. Did the refrigerant already leaked out or used up and is that something I can recharge? This unit is like 5 years old.

Welcome to the forums.
It sounds like the refrigerant has all leaked out. Not really a repairable unit.
Five years is about all they last now until the coils rust thru.

Thanks for the reply. I read some of your comments way back 2015 after doing google search and pointed me on this forums. I really thought it was the compressor. But even then, if there's a leak then recharging is not gonna repair the unit. Will get a new one then.

The compressor is running because it's generating heat. There's just no refrigerant left to compress.

And that's the reason why there is that different small in the basement as dehumidifier kept venting out the heat generated by the compressor cycling all the time. That's how I figured out where it's coming from, I thought there was some chemical spill on the basement or even a CO leak, but I know it's not as the CO sensors are all clear.
