Wait 5000 humidifier & Goodman furnace

Hi folks,

Thank you in advance for reading my question.

I have the followings and want to connect them together.
- Wait 5000 Humidifier PDF manual
- Goodman furnace GMSS92 PDF manual
- White Rodgers thermostat 1F78 PDF manual

My furnace and thermostat are already wired for heat/cool on 4 wires for a single transformer system (Figure 4 on page 3 of the thermostat's manual). The cable between the furnace and the thermalstat has 5 wires. So there is one wire not currently used.

The problem is that my humidifier is already installed too high up, leaving no room for installing the humidistat.

Sheet metal work is a pain for me. Instead of relocating the humidifier to a lower height to make room for installing the humidistat, I would much prefer to install the humidistat next to the thermalstat in the living room, IF POSSIBLE.

So my question is: given my scenario, is it possible to connect the humidifier to the furnace and install the humidistat next to the thermalstat in the living room using the existing cable of 5 wires?

I tried the following loop of wire, but blew the 3A fuse on the furnace control board.
- Connected RH on the thermalstat to terminal 1 on the humidistat
- Connected terminal 2 on the humidistat to the unused wire.
- Connected the other end of the unused wire (at the furnace now) to one of the 24 VAC IN on the humidifier
- Connected the other 24 VAC IN on the humidifier to W on the furnace control board.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forums.

You would connect one of the humidifier wires to C on the furnace board.
Connect your spare stat wire to the other humidifier wire.

At the thermostat..... connect W from the stat to one humidistat terminal.
Connect the spare wire to the other humidistat terminal.
