I have used nightcrawlers mostly. Also used "fermented" chicken livers wrapped in a piece of kneehigh nylon stocking (to hold it on the hook). Some areas allow corn (some don't). Good luck.

To get the big ones I will catch some small bluegills or rock bass early in the day and come evening I'll cut them in half and use them like that.

Shad and shad guts are another great cat bait.

I second the liver+nylon suggestion. In my area it is illegal to use any sort of native game fish as bait.

Wheaties cereal.

(get a rag and put in 1/2 cup of dry cereal. Add some water and wad the rag into a ball until the cereal turns into a ball inside it. Put this on a hook, works great...)

We used to make Wheatie balls with wheaties and karo syrup. They do work great.

Don't use Rice Krispies. The Snap, Crackle and Pop scares the fish.

Cut shad is the best. If you want little channels...yeah any stink bait/worms etc. Big blues/larger channels cut shad. Perc/bluegill heads are great for channels.

When fishing for catfish, it's best to take along several options. One never knows what they are hungry for. All of the above mentioned baits are in the lineup of popular catfish baits
