Bat behind shutter -- okay to leave it alone?
I had bats in my attic last summer and had the local animal control folks plug the areas where they were coming in from. They pointed out one that was roosting behind a shutter above my garage. I sprayed it with water two separate times. It didn't come back after the second spraying. Now, I see it (or another one) is roosting again behind the shutter. Is it okay to just leave it alone? We aren't out at nighttime, so I am not worried about getting bitten. My main concern is that having one bat leads to many more. Thanks.

As long as it isn't in the house I don't see a problem. They eat lots of bugs, and are good to have around.

Bats eat mosquitoes. Lots of them. Letting a bat setup home behind a shutter shouldn't be a problem.
Even if you do end up with a family of bats, they hide behind a wood plank and don't bother anybody.

About the only problem your going to have is that they poop and some where that will create a mess!
I have several bat houses, they are a great neighbor, but I would not want to have one living on or in my house.
I would suggest getting a bat house, they do require some pretty specific heights, positions, locations but hopefully you can persuade it too move, everybody will be happier!

Why not put up a bat house and give them a proper place to sleep? As previously stated they are good to have around.

No, bats behind your shutter should not hurt it though you may see some skid marks from their poo on the side of your house. I've got two bat houses and even with our forest and pond we have very few biting insects.

I doubt that you'll get a colony roosting behind the shutter, simply not enough room. It wouldn't bother me to have one or two behind the shutters. Even at night they won't bother you as they won't be there. At dusk they leave, at dawn or earlier, they return.
Bat houses are good for bats, but since the shutters are acceptable to them, they will live in/behind both most likely.
