Angry Home pest

We have either a snail or slug in our home but can't find him and do not know how he has got in or is getting in. Every morning a silvery trail has been left by the culprit in roughly the same place.
I have tried laying salt down but this hasn't worked. Any other ideas how I can get rid of this pest. Thanks.

Snails & Slugs

These slimy garden pests do occasionally sneak indoors at night. They need a fairly wide opening in a door, window, etc. to gain access. Blocking these openings would be the first step in keeping snails and slugs out of your house. Make a thorough inspection of your home to make sure that all gaps and cracks are sealed from insect and animal pests. Make sure you do not leave doors open and that all door thresholds are properly installed and properly seal when doors are closed. The slug leaves a trail of slime wherever it goes. It eats large ragged holes in the leaves of mature plants and may completely devour small seedlings. They usually are most serious on plants growing close to the soil surface. Indoors they will feed as long as environmental conditions are favorable. In damp soil they tend to be solitary, but in dry soil spotted garden slugs bunch together. They may live 30 to 36 months.

Slugs and snails are not usually found indoors. Sometimes they are brought in when moving outdoor plants indoors or may be carried in on an item left in the yard that was brought indoors. Or, perhaps you have recently purchased a new plant from a garden center that may have had a problem with slugs.

In addition to sealing all possible entries from household pests, a regular perimenter residual insecticide treatment on and around foundation of your home will tend to keep most insect pests at bay. Spraying baseboards indoors with residual insecticide also offers control for many insect pests.
