:eek: we just bought a 55 yr old cape style home in New England and discovered that we've had visitors in the attic for a while. I've seen no evidence (droppings or chewed food boxes etc...) of them inside the living area. The attic is crawl space with access through a couple of doors built into the eaves. The knee walls have built-ins and I've heard the mice run across the ceiling and stop above the built-in. My guess is this is the closest point to the baseboard radiators and they've been nesting there because of it's proximity to the heat. From reading this site it sounds like I have a two step project. One, find out how they're getting in and block it off. Two, set traps for up to a month following the last kill. After I've solved the visitor problem, do I need to crawl into the eaves and vacuum their droppings? What are the health risks? Should I remove insulation to vacuum the ceiling? We have two small children and the eave doors have locks. The radiators are baseboard hot water.

This morning I discovered several little white worms with bright red "heads" on the ceiling in the kitchen of my apartment. I immediately checked cupboards to see if they were originating from any food, and from what I could tell they were not. Further investigation revealed they were in several other rooms of the apartment as well--maybe a dozen or more that I could see, all on the ceiling, none seeming to be coming from a centralized location that was apparent to me. I've lived here for almost three years and have never seen anything like it. What are they??? Where are they coming from? How do I get rid of them? I'm totally grossed out! :confused:
