Birds Nesting Behind Shutters

Birds Nesting Behind Shutters
I have a house that has a Stone Front with Vinyl Shutters (12 by 48) mounted on 3 cement ledges allowing the birds to get behind the shutters where the stones make cracks/crevices along the sides of the shutters and build their nests....Does anyone have a solution for my Problem???

If the shutters are stationary, I would think a little clear caulk to seal the shutter/stone gap would solve the problem.

If the cracks are too large for caulk you might try some copper wool. It's somewhat like steel wool only thicker and made of copper, which will not rust.
We had a similar problem and hired a pest company to do a pest extraction and prevention. They used this copper wool and crammed it into the gaps around some pipes.
I found some on the internet here:

Good luck

I have used plastic gutter guard available at home depot or lowes. It can be cut down to the appropriate size and wedged between the shutter and the stone and really can't be seen unless standing right next to the shutter. It's been three months and so far so good. Cheap alternative compared to some of the other options.

I've found that there are actually a few bird repellents on the market that do a good job of keeping them away. One of the good things about these products is that they are mostly based on natural substances such as capsaicin, and won't be toxic to the birds or other wildlife but will keep them away. Here's a site where you can find some of the stuff I've been talking about.
