Some kind of critter
We have an opening from our kitchen fan to the roof and sometimes a critter will get in there and be unable to get out. We tried to find a way to open this area up but could not. What kind of animal could this be and how can we prevent further incidents? We hear what sounds like claws as if its trying to climb up and then a thump. One night this went on forever. I'm afraid birds are getting stuck in some vent and are going to attract bugs as well as stink us out. Any ideas? Thanks!

A screen should be placed over the vent opening to keep out pests. Kitchen fan will have to be removed in order to access the vent and clean it out. Pests could include birds, squirrels, mice, or other.
