Small bug identification help?

We thought my dog had fleas and took him to the groomer, who simply said there were "bugs". But I no longer think they're fleas -- I looked online and the pictures do NOT match at all.

The bugs I saw are small, black, with wings, and it crawled on my dog, rather than hopped. The flea killer I sprayed into the carpet seems to have killed a few of them, and they all match.

They were definately on my dog, and he is definately still scratching (the groomer said he would because bites will itch for a few days) but does anyone know what else they could be? I've been to all the bug identification websites and can't seem to figure it out.

I have no idea-never heard of this. Post on the "pets and farm animals" site. I've found helpful people there. Keep us posted.

Welcome to our forums!

If you update your profile to add where you roughly live it would be easier to help you.

It is possible that these "bugs" are members of the gnat family.
It is a large family that includes black flies which you may have.
Search "gnats and you might find what is bothering your dog.
