Unhappy Chipmonks!

I live in Ontario, Canada, and have a huge chipmonk problem. These little buggers have burrowed under my front porch. I have tried the water covered by sunflower seeds, the rat trap with peanut butter or peanuts, tried spreading hot pepper seasoning, all to no avail. My house is a slab on grade and am worried about the tunneling causing weak spots under the floor. I have radiant in floor heating, so I'm sure they are nice and warm under there. Any thoughts as what to do? Or am I worrying for nothing? Thanks Bob

Cute little buggers. Two answers, BB gun or aggressive cat.

If the area where they are burrowing is small enough, you may be able to deter them - I had something burrowing under the slab beneath the service door to my garage and stuffing the holes with a combination of rocks and caulk stopped them

Ya I tried filling the hole with gravel. First small stuff and now larger stuff. They seem to just burrow around what ever I put in the hole! The bad part of all this is that they burrow small tunnels under my brick sidewalk right under the main door in and out of our house. Every day I'm picking up bricks and filling in a new tunnel, Just to make sure someone doesn't stumble and fall. I've been putting a piece of ply wood on the sidewalk now to prevent falls. I'll eventually put in a concrete sidewalk, someday. I've located a source for pest control (in Canada) and am in conversation with them now for a solution. Thanks

We catch them in the garage with mouse traps (though we tie the traps down so the critter can't walk away with it if it)

We don't bait the traps but I've heard of using peanut butter (aroma) and topping it with a peanut (visual appeal)
