Synthetic Steel Wool

Hi,

Does synthetic steel wool work as well as regular metal wool (steel wool or copper stuffit) as a barrier against rats (i.e used to stuff/fill small holes & gaps)?

Thanks!

I don't know what synthetic steel wool is? What is it made of? Do you mean stainless steel wool? If so, it is excellent material.

Thanks PAbugman,

I'm looking for something to stuff into a small hole at the base of a metal roof (stone coated steel). Even though the wool will be covered by foam on the outside, I'm concerned about steel wool rusting with time. And since the roof is steel I'm hesitant to use bronze wool or copper Stuffit due to the dis-similar metals coming into contact.

Which got me thinking about synthetic steel wool, here is what I could dig up on the composition:

"3M Synthetic Steel Wool works like steel wool, yet these durable pads are easier on your hands. They resist clogging and crumbling and can be rinsed and reused. Features include a blend of synthetic fibers and abrasive particles that work like steel wool.... "

I did speak to a local exterminator, and this person seemed to think that it would work like steel wool, so long as I used course grade. Does that make sense?

It sounds to me like it could be scotch guard, since it is made by 3M. And I don't think, that going to stop anything from eating it like steel wool.
