How to find out were rats are getting into house

It seems that any time the weather turns cold rats get into the house. What do I need to look for to find out where they are getting in?

We have a two story house with a crawl space.

A thorough search around your house should identify entry points for rats. Look for digging areas in the ground also. Rats need a substantially larger opening than mice for entry - that should be noticeable. Also search the soffit/facia and roof areas for any openings that would let rats in. That crawl space would also need to be thoroghly inspected.

It's hard to give other direction than to just look for openings.

I'm not saying you can't handle them, but sometimes rats are best left to the pros.

Good luck,

Jay

..Also check your roof vents, gable or ridge vents as well as the soffit vents. These buggers do find their way in, 1 way or the other.
Ive put (tight) galvanized mesh under the roof vent(s) and around the outside of the vent...as well as the gable vents and anywhere else I could figure.
Last season, the buggers killed my dishwasher, by eating the rubber hoses...- What a royal PITA...!!
